Sincona sale 73, lot 1419

This specimen was lot 1419 in Sincona sale 73 (Zürich, November 2021), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$232 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Nasir al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 AH (1848-1896). 200 Dinars 1301 AH (1883 AD), Teheran. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. (Iran, Nasir al-Din Shah, 1848-96, two hundred dinars of AH 1301, Tehran mint. Rare, Good very fine.)"

With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran. Two dates exist (AH 1300 and 1301) exist of this scarce type, the only one of its denomination. We are unsure of the significance of the "B" mintmark on the reverse.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper, this specimen 20.29 g.

Catalog reference: KM 887.
