Iran AH 1295 1000 dinars
This specimen was lot 1046 in Sincona sale 85 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,751 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN, Nasir al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 AH (1848-1896). 1000 Dinars 1295 AH (1878 AD), Tehran Mint. Very rare date, especially in this condition. NGC MS63. Magnificent condition. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 75. Bought from William Barrett, Montreal, 1982."
With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran. One thousand dinars made a kran and ten kran made a toman. This type is listed for AH 1294-98 and undated. This example realized over four times the catalog value.
