Sincona sale 88, lot 180

This specimen was lot 180 in Sincona sale 88 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 5,250 CHF (about US$6,937 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Qajar Dynasty, Fath-'Ali Shah, 1212-1250 AH (1797-1834). 1/4 Kran 1242 AH (1826), Isfahan Mint. Shah on the throne. Äusserst seltener Typ und Nominal, Sehr schön-vorzüglich, Leicht gereinigt; Extremely rare type and denomination. Very fine-extremely fine. Lightly cleaned. Purchased from M. Marzban, London, in 1985."

This specimen was offered again as lot 2862 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 2,250 CHF (about US$3,391 including buyers' fees). Isfahan was the sole mint for this rare type. The kran gradually superseded the rial, not struck after AH 1246.
