Sincona sale 88, lot 38

This specimen was lot 38 in Sincona sale 88 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$661 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Safavid Dynasty, Esma'il III. 1163-1169 AH (1750-1756). 2 Shahi 1167 AH (1754), Mazandaran Mint. Sehr selten, Gutes vorzüglich, Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung, Leicht gereinigt; Very rare. Good extremely fine. Extraordinary condition. Lightly cleaned. Purchased from A. Saeedi, London, in 1988."

Isma'il served as a puppet for Ali Mardan Khan Bakhtiari and later for the Zands. This "type D" two shahi was struck only at Mazandaran.
