Sincona sale 88, lot 36

This specimen was lot 36 in Sincona sale 88 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 6,000 CHF (about US$7,929 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Safavid Dynasty, Esma'il III. 1163-1169 AH (1750-1756). Mohur Ashrafi 1165 AH (1752), Qazvin Mint. Von grösster Seltenheit; Of the highest rarity. NGC MS61. Purchased from I. Mochiri, Paris, in 2009."

Isma'il served as a puppet for Ali Mardan Khan Bakhtiari and later for the Zands. Mohurs were struck at Isfahan, Shiraz and Tabriz for Azad Khan but none are listed for Isma'il III.
