Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice Online Auction, lot 76181

This specimen was lot 76181 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 100 Rupees, 2002. Kolkata Mint. NGC PROOF-65 Ultra Cameo. Struck to commemorate Sant Tukaram." This design was also used for a two (KM 305), ten (KM 347) and fifty rupees (KM 348). Wikipedia notes,

"Pujya Shri Tukaram ji Maharaj (c.1608-c.1650)...was a Hindu Marathi saint...in the 17th century. He was a Bhakt of the god Vithoba. He is best known for his devotional poetry called Abhanga, which are popular in Maharashtra. Many of his poems deal with social reform."

Another hundred rupees of 2002 honored Jayaprakash Narayan (KM 345).

Recorded mintage: unknown plus proofs.

Specification: 35 g, 0.500 fine silver, 44 mm diameter, reeded edge.
