Steve Album sale 52, lot 2432

This specimen was lot 2432 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA: Republic, 5 rupees, 1996(c), 2nd International Crop Science Congress (Fasal) variety, a pleasing lustrous mint state example! PCGS graded MS62." KM comments, "This conference was never held." This design was restruck in 2006 with a slight variation in the Devangari legend ("fansal" instead of "fasal"). As of July 2025, 5 rupees = US$0.058.

Recorded mintage: 11,000, plus a few restrikes in 2006 ("Fansal").

Specification: 9 g, copper-nickel, 23 mm diameter, security edge.
