This specimen was lot 76177 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $45. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 5 Rupees, 1984-(B). Bombay Mint. NGC MS-64. Struck to commemorate the death of Indira Gandhi." After her assassination, her portrait also appeared on a fifty paise (KM 67), twenty rupees (KM 241) and a 100 rupees (KM 281).
Recorded mintage: 59,288,000 with a diamond plus proofs with a "B" plus more from Hyderabad (mintmark star).
Specification: 12.6 g, copper-nickel, 31.1 mm diameter, security edge.
