Stephen Album sale 50, lot 621

This specimen was lot 621 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $420. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: George V, 1910-1936, 1 anna, 1924(c), scarce date in mint state, a superb quality example for type! NGC graded MS64." This one anna was struck at the Calcutta mint as part of a type struck 1911-30, 1933-36. This example realized seven times the catalog value. The denomination was introduced in 1906 and struck until the end of the Raj in 1947.

Recorded mintage: 16,640,000 plus proofs plus 17,285,000 from Bombay.

Specification: 3.8 g, copper-nickel, 21 mm diameter.
