Heritage sale 3073, lot 31397

This specimen was lot 31397 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $18,000. The catalog description^[1] noted, "British India. Victoria gold Mohur 1841-(m) MS63 NGC, Madras mint. 'S' on neck truncation for the Madras Mint, continuous obverse legend. A choice example with full original mint luster and slightly prooflike fields. An exceptional example of the type." This type was struck at Madras, Bombay and Calcutta in numerous varieties with a frozen date until the introduction of the British India mohur (KM 480) in 1862.

Recorded mintage: 32,000 plus proofs.
