The first specimen was lot 2280 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1,610. The catalog description[1] noted, "1841 mohur. AU-55 (NGC). Young head of Victoria to left, date and legends around/type as above. Medium orange gold, some lustre remaining, attractive but showing some hairlines. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." The second specimen was lot 12159 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $3,760. The catalog description[2] noted, "INDIA. Mohur, 1841-(c). PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder. Fr-1595; KM-461.2. Type I with continuous legends." This type was struck at Madras and Calcutta in numerous varieties with a frozen date until the introduction of the British India mohur (KM 480) in 1862.

Recorded mintage: 442,000 (KM 462.1), 601,000 (KM 461.2).

Specification: 11.66 g, 0.917 fine gold, .343 troy oz AGW; the first specimen: 11.68 grams, 25.90 mm diameter.
