Iceland 1971 5 kronur rev DSLR.jpg

This five kronur was struck by the Royal Mint for the republic of Iceland 1969-80 and all dates are common. In 1980, proofs were offered. The inflation of the 1960's and 1970's killed off the smaller denominations (one eyrir and five aurar in 1966, twenty-five aurar in 1967, ten aurar in 1974). New denominations were introduced, the fifty kronur in 1970, this five kronur in 1969 and the ten kronur in 1967. It was demonetized in 1981 by a currency reform (one new krona = 100 old kronur).

Recorded mintage: 500,000.

Specification: 4 g, copper-nickel, 20.75 mm diameter, plain edge.

Catalog reference: KM 18.
