This specimen was lot 71606 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "ICELAND. 5 Kronur, 1973. London or Llantrisant Mint. NGC SPECIMEN-65. Just sort of being the finest certified by PCGS, this untoned Gem example has shimmering luster and steel gray surfaces." This type was struck for the republic of Iceland in 1969-80. The inflation of the 1960's and 1970's killed off the smaller denominations (one eyrir and five aurar in 1966, twenty-five aurar in 1967, ten aurar in 1974). New denominations were introduced, the fifty kronur in 1970, this five kronur in 1969 and the ten kronur in 1967. In 1981, the krona was reformed and 100 old krona = 1 new krona.

Recorded mintage: 1,100,000.

Specification: 4 g, copper-nickel.

Catalog reference: KM-18.
