CNG Triton XXIX, lot 1056

This specimen was lot 1056 in CNG Triton XXIX (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $2,143.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA, Princely States. Hyderabad. Mir Osman Ali Khan Asaf Jah VII. AH 1329-1368 / AD 1911-1948. AV Half Ashrafi. Haidarabad mint. Dually dated AH 1345 and RY 16 (AD 1927). Chahar Minar gateway; [i]mmobilized 92 in eastern Arabic numerals above; initial ain in Persian in doorway; AH date below / Calligraphic legend citing name and titles; RY date to left. Light marks, areas of underlying luster. AU." The princely state of Hyderabad was one of the last absorbed into the Republic of India in 1948. It was also the largest state and residence of the last remnant of Mughal suzerainty in central India. This type, struck for Mir Usman Ali Khan (AH 1329-1367 or 1911-48 A.D.), is listed for AH1331-1362 and is presumably common. The regnal date is on the reverse, about 8 o'clock.
