Hyderabad AH 1337(8) rupee
This specimen was lot 56394 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Hyderabad. Rupee, AH 1337 Year 8 (1920). Hyderabad Mint. Mir Usman Ali Khan (under George V as Emperor). PCGS MS-65." The princely state of Hyderabad was one of the last absorbed into the Republic of India in 1948. It was also the largest state and residence of the last remnant of Mughal suzerainty in central India. Many of the issues, including this one, show the Chahar Minar gateway on the obverse. This type was struck AH 1330 thru AH 1343. Silver rupees were struck as late as AH 1365.
