Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale, lot 74295

This specimen was lot 74295 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Hyderabad. Rupee, AH 1361 Year 32 (1942). Haidarabad Mint. Mir Usman Ali Khan (George V as Emperor). NGC MS-63. This attractive choice Rupee gives a matted luster and some dark golden tone." The princely state of Hyderabad was one of the last absorbed into the Republic of India in 1948. It was also the largest state and residence of the last remnant of Mughal suzerainty in central India. Many of the issues, including this one, show the Chahar Minar gateway on the obverse. This type was struck years 31-36 and is common.
