Hyderabad AH1362(34) rupee
This specimen was lot 72535 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Hyderabad. Rupee, AH 1362 Year 34 (1943). Hyderabad Mint. Mir Usman Ali Khan (under George VI as Emperor). PCGS MS-63. This wholesome and pleasing example delivers a rich luster and strong details throughout, with sharp luster and wholesome design elements that escape any signs of aggressive and disturbed handling. A piece that is deserving of nothing short of many excited bids." The princely state of Hyderabad was one of the last absorbed into the Republic of India in 1948. It was also the largest state and residence of the last remnant of Mughal suzerainty in central India. Many of the issues, including this one, show the Chahar Minar gateway on the obverse. This type was struck years 31-36 and is common.
