This specimen was lot 76421 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Hyderabad. Ashrafi, AH 1325 Year 41 (1907/08). Hyderabad Mint. Mir Mahbub Ali Khan II (under Edward VII as Emperor). PCGS MS-64. A stunning nearly-Gem example of the most popular Hyderabad issue, this engrossing Ashrafi is tied with one other specimen for the finest graded example yet holdered by PCGS. The handsome details are clearly imparted, and any signs of marking or handling are most limited nature." Hyderabad was one of the few princely states wealthy enough to have an extensive series of gold coins. This type was struck AH 1286-1318.
