Hungary 1837-B 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 5523 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,618 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"KAISERREICH ÖSTERREICH, Ferdinand I. 1835-1848. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1837, B, Kremnitz, für Ungarn. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich +. (empire of Austria, Ferdinand I, 1835-48, half convention thaler of 1837, Kremnitz mint, for Hungary. Very scarce, especially in this quality, choice extremely fine.)"
This rare type was struck 1837 and 1839 only. It differed from the standard Austrian half thalers by featuring the Madonna and Child on the reverse.
