Hungary 1700-KB thaler Dav-3265
This specimen was lot 21341 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. Taler, 1700/699-KB. Kremnitz Mint. Leopold I. NGC MS-61. The only graded survivor of the Davenport number in Mint State at either NGC or PCGS. A SCARCE type that should be considered RARE in this state of preservation. A bright and lustrous example with light mottled sunset hued patina throughout. From the Habsburg Collection." This type, struck 1681-1702 in many varieties (Dav-3260, -3261, -3262, -3262A, -3262B, -3263, -3263A, -3264, -3265), is common. This variety, struck 1700 with the obverse legend shortened to "GE:HV:BO:R:", is rather expensive. Hungary in 1699 had been freshly reconquered by the Austrians from the Turks but was not part of the Empire.
