This specimen was lot 27896 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $470. The catalog description[1] noted, "Leopold the Hogmouth Taler 1699-KB, XF, well struck and nicely centered on the flan with deep patination on both sides that gives way to traces of rainbow coloration." This type, struck 1681-1700 in many varieties (Dav-3260, -3261, -3262, -3262A, -3262B, -3263, -3263A, -3264, -3265), is common. This variety, struck 1695-99, is listed as one of the more common thalers of the period. Hungary in 1699 had been freshly reconquered by the Austrians from the Turks but was not part of the Empire.
