Hungary 1661-KB thaler Dav-3254
This specimen was lot 4770 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,476 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Leopold I., 1657-1705. Reichstaler 1661 KvB, Kremnitz. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines sächsischen Naturwissenschaftlers. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I, 1657-1705, thaler of 1661, Kremnitz mint. Handsome patina, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1658-61, rendering it one of the more common thalers of the period. The SCWC correctly catalogs this under Hungary, not Austria. Hungary in 1661 was partitioned between the Austrians and the Turks and was not part of the Empire.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 28-29 g, silver, 45 mm diameter, this specimen 28,58 g.
