Künker Auction 426, lot 3043

This specimen was lot 3043 in Künker Auction 426 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €925 (about US$1,310 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maximilian II., 1564-1576. 1/2 Reichstaler 1577 KB, Kremnitz. Posthume Prägung. R Kl. Kratzer, sehr schön. (Holy Roman Empire, Maximilian II, 1564-76, half thaler of 1577, Kremnitz mint, posthumous strike. Rare, hairlines, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1573-78 at Kremnitz (shown here) and Košice/Kassa (Slovakia). It is accompanied by a thaler (Dav-8059) and a quarter thaler.

Specification: 14.41 g, 0.894 fine silver; this specimen is 14,02 g.
