This specimen was lot 6705 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $763.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. Goldgulden, ND. Ludwig I (the Great) (1342-82). PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder. Standing haloed John the Baptist facing, raising hand in benediction; Reverse: Arms of Hungary-Anjou in hexalobe. Nicely struck from dies with slight wear, a terrific and appealing example. From the Mezo-Toth Kalman Collection." The ducats or florins or goldgulden of Hungary are among the more common gold coins of the late middle ages.
