Honan Province in the south east of China began coin production in 1647. A mint for struck coinage began operation in 1905. The specimen shown was lot 60171 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $4,182. The catalog description[1] noted, “CHINA. Hunan. 5 Ch'ien (Mace), ND (1906). 湖南阜南官局省平足紋五錢。NGC AU-55.”
