Honan Province in the south east of China began coin production in 1647. A mint for struck coinage began operation in 1905. The specimen shown was lot 60170 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $2151. The catalog description[1] noted, “CHINA. Hunan. 1 Mace 4.4 Candareens (20 Cents), ND (ca. 1902). 湖南省造光緒元寶一錢四分四釐銀幣。 Toned. 有包漿。NGC XF-40. Ex: The Frank Robinson Collection.”
