Stack's Bowers April 2021 Hong Kong sale, lot 53115
SB421-53115r.jpg

This specimen was lot 53115 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $15,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Hunan. Tael, ND (1909). NGC AU-50. Issued by the Ta Ching Government Bank. Quite elegant despite its crude nature, this piece offers a solid strike with clear characters and only lightly scattered marks and edge splits. A hint of deposits highlights the characters, especially upon the reverse." This is not listed in the SCWC, likely because it was issued by a bank, not by a government mint.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 35.9 g, silver.

Catalog reference: L&M-396; K-962.
