Honan Province in the south east of China began coin production in 1647. A mint for struck coinage began operation in 1905.

The specimen shown was lot 21241 in Ponterio sale 165 (Hong Kong, April 2012), where it sold for $1195. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Hunan. 10 Cash, ND (1912). NGC MS-64 BN. 中華民國湖南銅元當十。."
