Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72302

This specimen was lot 72302 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, ""HONG KONG. 5 Cents, 1932. PCGS MS-66 Gold Shield. Fully awash in an alluring steel gray tone, this plus Gem offers flawless surfaces and a hint of peripheral goldenrod to further accentuate its charm." This type was minted with the portrait of George V in 1932-33; both dates are common. It was the first issue of five cents since 1905 and the last in silver. The subsequent release of 1935 (KM 8a) was in copper-nickel. The denomination was retired in 1988.

Recorded mintage: 3,000,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 1.36 g, 0.800 fine silver, 0.034 troy oz ASW.
