This specimen was lot 2470 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $228. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONG KONG: Edward VII, 1901-1910, AR 50 cents, 1904, light hairlines, Choice EF, S." This type was struck 1902 and 1904-05 only and has a price which ascends rapidly with grade. This example realized almost four times the catalog value. No additional fifty cent pieces were struck for Hong Kong until 1951, by which time the coin was brass. British coinage for Hong Kong ceased in 1997 when the island was returned to China.
