This specimen was lot 34236 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $5,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hong Kong: British Colony. Victoria 5 Cents 1879 MS63 NGC. An absolutely gorgeous minor, highly original in the surfaces with a resplendent rainbow of intense coloration over both sides." This type was struck at the London Mint 1866-1901 and this date is listed as scarce. This example realized 17 times the catalog value. British coinage for Hong Kong ceased in 1997 when the island was returned to China.
