Honduras SB517-72414r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72414 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it sold for $117.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS. 8 Reales, 1857-T-FL. NGC VF-20 BN. A few planchet flaws and somewhat uneven strike as usual. Pleasing chocolate brown surfaces and well above average for this crudely produced, well circulated type. Provenance: From the Richard Stuart Collection." Honduras issued a series of increasingly debased minor coinage during 1832-53. This peso, theoretically worth eight reales, was issued in copper-lead 1857-61 and normally appears in wretched condition.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper-lead.

Catalog reference: KM-21a.
