Sedwick sale 25, lot 1085

This specimen was lot 1085 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2019), where it sold for $476. The catalog description[1] noted, "Tegucigalpa, Honduras, copper-lead 4 reales, 1857/2F/G, rare, NGC VF 30 BN, finest and only example in NGC census. KM-20e. At the end of the Honduran provisional series comes this derelict issue that has no silver at all and is not even pure copper, which makes for a dark and dull appearance, yet on this example all the details are clear and the crudeness is at a minimum for the date, which is scarce (this overdate and over-assayer variety being just plain rare, listed without values in KM). NGC #4724563-010." This is the last in a series of increasingly debased minor coinage that started in 1825. The overdate 1857/2 is listed as rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper-lead.

Catalog reference: KM 20e.
