Honduras 1858-T FL 8 reales
This specimen was lot 72415 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it sold for $188. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS. 8 Reales, 1858-T-FL. NGC EF-40 BN. 'HOND'. A few minting flaws as usual. Nice even chocolate brown surfaces and well above what is routinely encountered for this crudely produced, normally well worn issue. Provenance: From the Richard Stuart Collection." Honduras issued a series of increasingly debased minor coinage during 1832-53. This peso, theoretically worth eight reales, was issued in copper-lead 1857-61 and normally appears in wretched condition. For 1858, several varieties exist in the obverse legends, including this one with the country name spelled "HOND".
