Honduran coinage from 1825-1839 was as a constituent state within the Central American Republic. There were two types of four reales coins issued in 1852, each with a very low silver fineness, really only present as a wash. The specimen shown was lot 1395 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS. 4 Reales, 1852-TG. NGC MS-62. A good majority of the original silver wash still present. Darkly toned, very attractive."
