Honan Province in the south east of China began coin production in 1647. A mint for struck coinage began operation in 1905.
The specimen shown was lot 60162 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $2270. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Honan. 50 Cash, ND (ca. 1920). 河南當五十文銅元。NGC MS-63 BN. Ex: A.M. Tracey Woodward Collection Ex: The Frank Robinson Collection."
