Honan Province in the south east of China began coin production in 1647. A mint for struck coinage began operation in 1905.
The specimen shown was lot 60168 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, “CHINA. Honan. 10 Cash, CD 1906. 戶部丙午大清銅幣十文。Original province unknown, countermarked for Honan. RARE. 中央“鄂”改“汴”。稀少。VERY FINE. Ex: Norman Jacobs.”
