Schulman sale 347, lot 231
Sincona sale 47, lot 1962

The first specimen was lot 231 in Schulman sale 347 (Amsterdam, April 2015), where it sold for €5,500 (about US$7,079 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "piedfort zilveren dukaat. 1734. op dubbele zwaarte. type iia. Ridder met provinciaal wapen aan lint mo: no: aRg: pRo: confOE: Belg: co: hol. Kz. gekroond generaliteitswapen tussen jaartal, daarboven wapentje van dordrecht. gladde rand. RRR. Sublieme kwaliteit. Donkere patina met daaronder de originele muntkleur nog zichtbaar. FDC." The second specimen was lot 1962 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 3,120 CHF (about US$3,744 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"THE NETHERLANDS, Province of Holland, Doppelter Silberdukat 1734. Gutes vorzüglich. Feine Patina. (Netherlands, province of Holland, double silver ducat of 1734. Good extremely fine, Nicely toned.)"

The SCWC lists silver ducats for 1734-35 and 1751-72 (KM 52.3) but does not mention the rare double ducats which Davenport notes for 1734-35 only.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 56.5 g, 0.941 fine silver, the first specimen 56.10 g, the second specimen 56.16 g.
