Holland SB818-23459r.jpg

This specimen was lot 23459 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Holland. 1/2 Lion Daalder, 1578. PCGS VF-35. Also known as a 1/2 Leeuwendaalder. A deeply toned example of this scarcer denomination. From the Cardinal Collection Educational Foundation." The leeuwendaalder and its half are famous in the numismatic world as being some of the worst struck coins in history. This type is recorded in the SCWC for Holland for 1601-53 with various mintmarks.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not expensive in low grade.

Specification: 13.84 g, 0.750 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Delm-870 (R3).
