Hohenlohe in 1648, from Droysen's atlas

This specimen was lot 1302 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$363 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Öhringen, Grafschaft, Johann Friedrich I. 1641-1702. 1/4 Taler 1699, Augsburg. Münzmeister Christian Holeisen. Stempelschneider Philipp Heinrich Müller. Gutes sehr schön. Kleines Zainende. Leicht gereinigt. Exemplar der Auktion Meister & Sonntag 2, Stuttgart, September 2004, Los 2132. (Germany, county of Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Öhringen, John Frederick the Elder, 1641-1702, quarter thaler of 1699, Augsburg mint. Good Very Fine, Minor edge clip, Slightly cleaned.)"

This is one of two quarter thalers issued by this insignificant locale, the other being KM 41 of 1760. The SCWC states that this coin was struck from dies using for KM 22. The county of Hohenlohe, small to begin with, further fragmented in the seventeenth century to form Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Neuenstein and Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Öhringen. During the Napoleonic mediatization, the county was partitioned between Bavaria and Wurttemberg.
