This specimen was lot 961 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €5,500 (about US$7,105 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOHENLOHE-NEUENSTEIN, GRAFSCHAFT Craft und Philipp Ernst zu Langenburg, 1610-1641. Reichstaler 1623, Neuenstein, mit Titel Ferdinands II. Von großer Seltenheit. Sehr attraktives Exemplar, leichte Schrötlingsfehler im Randbereich, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, county of Hohenlohe-Neuenstein, Craft and Philip Ernest of Langenburg, 1610-41, thaler of 1623, Neuenstein mint, in the name of Ferdinand II. Of the greatest rarity, very attractive example, small edge crack, choice extremely fine.)

Graf Craft, Sohn des Grafen Wolfgang, wurde 1582 geboren. Ein Chronist sagte einmal über ihn, er sei "Wegen seines genereusen Gemüths und Ansehens, großen Verstandes und Erfahrenheit, allenthalben hochgerühmet worden." Im Jahre 1615 vermählte er sich mit Sophia, Tochter des Grafen Karl von Pfalz-Birkenfeld. Herzog Johann Friedrich von Württemberg bestellte ihn im Jahre 1622 zum Generalleutnant über seine Armee. Am 30jährigen Krieg nahm er großen Anteil und hatte auf eigene Kosten ein beträchtliches Corps zu dem schwedischen Heer gestellt. König Gustav Adolf von Schweden ernannte ihn 1632 zum Generalstatthalter und Oberkommandanten im fränkischen Kreis und schenkte ihm das Kloster Schöntal und das Stift Ellwangen, beides ging jedoch nach der Schlacht bei Nördlingen wieder verloren. (Count Craft, son of Count Wolfgang, was born in 1582. A chronicler once said of him that he had "been because of his nobility and prestige, great intellect and adeptness everywhere welcomed." In 1615 he married Sophia, daughter of Count Karl von Pfalz-Birkenfeld. Duke Johann Friedrich of Württemberg appointed him in 1622 to be lieutenant general of his army. During the Thirty Years War, he played his part and raised a large corps for the Swedish army at his own expense. King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden in 1632 appointed him to be the governor-general and the High Commander in the Franconian district and gave him the monastery Schöntal and the pin Ellwangen, but both were lost after the Battle of Nördlingen.)"

The county of Hohenlohe, small to begin with, further fragmented in the seventeenth century to form Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Neuenstein and Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Oehringen. During the Napoleonic mediatization, the county was partitioned between Bavaria and Wurttemberg. This type is very rare.
