Sincona sale 18, lot 1424

This specimen was lot 1424 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Taler 1737. Nürnberg Auf den Tod seines Vaters Friedrich Eberhard. Vorzüglich-gutes vorzüglich. (Germany, county of Hohenlohe-Kirchberg, thaler of 1737, Nurnberg mint, on the death of his father Friedrich Eberhard, extremely fine.)"

A few thalers and half thalers represent the entire eighteenth century coinage of this tiny state, which was promoted from county to principality in 1764 and mediatized in 1806.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 29.12 g.
