Hohenlohe-Langenburg 1751-PPW CGL thaler Dav-2355
This specimen was lot 2240 in Sincona sale 33 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,374 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Grafschaft, Ludwig, 1715-1765 Taler 1751. Nürnberg Auf den 50. Jahrestag der Landesteilung. Prachtexemplar. FDC. (Germany, county of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Louis, 1715-65, thaler of 1751, Nuremburg mint, on the fiftieth anniversary of the division of Hohenlohe into Langenburg, Ingelfing and Kirchberg. Cabinet piece, Uncirculated.)"
A few thalers and half thalers represent the entire eighteenth century coinage of this tiny state, which was promoted from county to principality in 1764 and mediatized in 1806.
