Künker sale 294, lot 4077

This specimen was lot 4077 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,600 (about US$2,157 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"REICHSGOLDMÜNZEN, HESSEN, Ernst Ludwig, 1892-1918. 20 Mark 1893. Sehr schön. (unified gold coinage, grand duchy of Hesse, Ernest Louis, 1892-1918, twenty mark of 1893. Very fine.)"

This rare type is noted for 1893 only. The previous twenty mark featured Ernst's predecessor Ludwig IV (KM 365).

Recorded mintage: 25,000 + proofs.

Specification: 7.96 g, 0.900 fine gold.
