Künker sale 264, lot 3723

This specimen was lot 3723 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €4,400 (about US$5,684 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HESSEN-KASSEL, LANDGRAFSCHAFT, Friedrich I. 1730-1751. Dukat 1737, Kassel. Büste r. mit Lorbeerkranz, unten die Signatur L · R (Louis Rollin, Münzmeister in Kassel 1723-1744)//Gekröntes, vierfeldiges schwedisches Wappen, belegt mit dem sechsfeldigen Wappen von Hessen mit dem hessischen Löwen als Mittelschild, zu den Seiten die geteilte Jahreszahl 17 - 37. GOLD. RR Min. gewellt, sehr schön. (Germany, landgraviate of Hesse-Cassel, Frederick I, 1730-51, ducat of 1737, Cassel mint. Obverse: laureate bust to right, signature below; reverse: crowned, quartered arms of Sweden with Hessian arms on central escutcheon divides the date. Rare, bent, very fine.)"

This scarce type was reissued in 1746. Frederick I was also king of Sweden.
