Hesse-Cassel 1731 ducat Fr-1299
This specimen was lot 1525 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €5,500 (about US$7,788 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · HESSEN-KASSEL, LANDGRAFSCHAFT Friedrich I., 1730-1751. Dukat 1731, Kassel. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit umgelegtem Mantel//Gekröntes vierfeldiges Wappen mit Mittelschild. GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Min. gewellt, vorzüglich. (Germany, landgraviate of Hesse-Cassel, Frederick I, 1730-51, ducat of 1731, Cassel mint. Obverse: armored and draped bust right; reverse: crowned and quartered arms with escutcheon. Slightly wavy, extremely fine.)"
The SCWC lists this scarce type for 1731, 1737, 1746, 1749 and 1750. Frederick I was also king of Sweden and spent most of his reign there and so made his brother William regent in Hesse.
