Hesse-Cassel 1630 1/96 thaler
This specimen was lot 7034 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hesse-Cassel. 1/96 Taler, 1630. Wilhelm V. NGC MS-61. Obverse: Coat of arms with divided date above; Reverse: Tree in storm, DEO VOLENTE HUMILIS LEVABOR around. A boldly struck little coin with some gray toning in the fields." This specimen was offered again as lot 1124 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $1,920. The SCWC does not mention this denomination with this "God's Wrath" design but shows a 1/8 thaler for 1630 (KM 123). After William V's death, coinage for this state lapsed back into somnolence.
