Henneberg-Ilmenau 1693-BA thaler Dav-7481
This specimen was lot 5789 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,644 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HENNEBERG, GRAFSCHAFT, Gemeinschaftlich sächsischer Anteil. Reichstaler 1693, Ilmenau. Ausbeute der Gruben in Ilmenau. Feine Tönung, fast vorzüglich. Die Reverslegende lautet bei dieser Emission übersetzt: MIT VIELFACHER FRUCHT WERDE ICH VOM HOHEN HIMMEL HER GESEGNET. (Germany, county of Henneberg, joint Saxon rule, Ilmenau mint, for the Ilmenau mines. Fine toning, almost extremely fine. The reverse legend for this issue reads: 'I AM BLESSED BY HEAVEN WITH MANY FRUITS.')"
The counts of Henneberg fell extinct in 1580, after which the county was co-ruled by various Saxon dukes. In this period, the rulers were Saxe-Gotha and Saxe-Weimar.
