Sincona sale 101, lot 2468

This specimen was lot 2468 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 3,750 CHF (about US$5,652 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Henneberg, Grafschaft, Gemeinschaftsprägung, 1692-1702. Taler 1694, Ilmenau. Ausbeute der Gruben in Ilmenau. Münzmeister Sebastian (Bastian) Altmann. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Herrliche Patina. (Germany, County of Henneberg, joint rule, 1692-102, thaler of 1694, Ilmenau mint, for the mines. Rare in this condition. NGC MS63, Most attractively toned.)"

The counts of Henneberg fell extinct in 1580, after which the county was co-ruled by various Saxon dukes. In this period, the rulers were Saxe-Gotha and Saxe-Weimar. This one year type is very scarce.
