This specimen was lot 74576 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1769-IAP. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg III (George III of Great Britain). PCGS AU-55. Vivid warm apricot, pumpkin orange, and sharp sapphire blue tone coat the recesses of this well preserved survivor. Mint State in every respect save for a hint of handling across fields and devices, there is sure to be approval from the large following that exists for Wild Man types. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1762-84 for George III and reverts to the 24 mariengroschen denomination after two-thirds thalers were struck for George II. We also note KM 341 (shield/value) for 1769.
